4 Important Ways to Protect your Oil Tank

Fuel Theft

There are a number of different things you can do to protect yourself from having oil stolen from your tank. A very low cost, but effective way is to use a padlock and lock the access point to your oil tank. Another way to deter thieves is to install the tank out of sight of roads and walkways. A great way to hide your oil tank is by installing an underground tank. Rain – check the lids on your tank regularly to ensure they are securely closed, especially after a delivery. This will help prevent water getting into the bund or the inner storage tank which can be very problematic.

Just like an Oil Boiler, it is advised to have your Oil Tank serviced once a year as it is a vital part of your heating system. The best time to do this would be in the summer in preparation for the winter months. You can also do your own checks on a weekly basis. Key things to check for are, cracks, bulges, leaks/drips, loose connections/fittings and corroded pipes. Ideally, the driver who delivers the product to your home should be able to give you advice on all of these aspects as he would be an expert. If he also is not able to help, contact a plumber/installer immediately to have your tank professionally inspected.
